Swimwear Shopping Tips

For obvious reasons, shopping for swimwear is probably one of the least favorite things to do in the summer -- but it's necessary if you want to toss out your old bikini and find an updated suit that looks hot and feels cool. Are you going on vacation, to the beach, or plan on just lounging around on your day off? We've got some shopping tips to help you find a swimsuit that looks great not only on the rack but yourself as well. Let's get started...

Check out Return Policies

Shop only at stores you trust and always save your receipts. Closely check out the return policy on swimwear, and ask questions if necessary. Most stores will accept returns on swimsuits if they haven't been worn and still have the tags attached. If your suit is defective, you can probably still return it if it has been worn. A liberal return policy is desirable if you're shopping online, so you don't encounter problems with a suit that doesn't fit.

Look for signs in the store saying such things as "all sales are final." You may see these signs on clearance racks indicating you cannot return swimwear that has been marked down. You're getting a good deal, but be sure to try on the suit before you buy it.

Get Help

Take adequate time and shop with a trusted friend to swap ideas with. Honest opinions sometimes take a hit on the ego, but will help you avoid a fashion disaster that can cause considerable embarrassment when you're trying to impress that special guy. Likewise, tell your friend which suits don't look the best on her, and why. Soften the blow and praise her when she dons beachwear that works well for her figure.

Trying on Swimwear

For your own protection, keep your undergarments on when trying on swimwear -- particularly your panties. Just the thought of putting on swimwear that has been worn "au-natural" by others is an ultimate "gross-out." Protection strips in the crotch area will insure that you have a sanitary suit after you purchase it.

How to Choose Swimsuits that Flatter Your Figure

To look your best at the beach or pool, play around with styles and patterns that will minimize your flaws and maximize your assets! Time is money, so by knowing your problem areas, you can avoid the swimwear that's not going to do a thing for you -- and focus on the swimsuits that best suit your shape. Look for beachwear that is comfortable and won't fall off while you're swimming. After all, this is swimwear so it should serve that purpose.
