What Really Makes Babies so Darn Cute?

Babies in general, are beautiful, and the things we grown-ups often find lovely in each other are the things that are lovely in babies. Big eyes, smooth skin and small features are usually considered beautiful, and the models who hitch themselves weirdly down the runways of New York and Paris are usually absurdly young for the clothes they are sort of wearing. “Feminine” is often paired with “young”, in magazines and television, making women over thirty wonder if life is really nearly over when there’s so much left to do. But beauty isn’t really about youth: the beauty that comes with youth is incidental, superficial. It’s gone before a woman has time to become interesting, and her own person. The Mommies at the party were beautiful, laughing at their babies’ antics, joking with each other and enjoying the sunny day. There are few things more beautiful than people laughing from sheer enjoyment.

If you’re not feeling happy, it’s hard to appear beautiful. (And if you’re feeling unhappy, your looks are the least of your problems). Forget the sullen catwalk waifs, and the scary, long-necked, colt-legged sixteen year olds wearing sable corsets and six inch heels--that’s not real life. Laughing with a baby who just rubbed cake all over her face, that’s life.

(I’m pretty sure there’s nothing I could give Emily that she would appreciate, so I picked out something I loved, an adorable, flowered baggy-pants sunsuit, in pink and yellow, with a matching bonnet. I can’t wait to see Emily in her new beach togs!)

Bathing Suit Tips for Body Flattering Swimwear for Women and Teen Girls

What womens swimsuit fashion is best and most flattering for your body type Apple shaped body frames have a middle area that is larger than the hips and/or shoulders. Tankinis with a solid color top and a patterned bottom will give you a more balance appearance. One-piece bathing suits with tummy control or other design feature like ruching that create the illusion of a waist line will be the most flattering.

Pear shaped body types have larger hips/butt and smaller shoulders and waist. Try suits with a solid colored bottom and patterned top. Another style for camoflauging a larger bottom half would be skirted or boyshort style suit.

Small Bust - To enhance a smaller bust try a halter bikini top that has a seam just under the bust line or a lightly padded or lined top. Triangle bikini tops with a thin foam liner can also be very bust/cleavage enhancing. Swim wear with texture (ruffles, seaming, etc.) can also help add volume to your bust line if you feel self-conscious.

Fuller Bottom - Skirted swim suits are back in style and can be found in many different patterns and styles. The skirt flatters a fuller bottomed body type and will give you a more balance look. You may also want to try on a few boy short styles as well. Both of these options offer a little more coverage on the bottom. Solid color on the bottom and pattern on the top will also help balance this body type.

Slender, athletic bodies have shoulders, waist and hips that are the similar in width. One-piece or two-piece suits with detailing around the waist will help create a more hourglass shape. Try a wrap style top or a belted bathing suit bottom to create more waist definition.

Hourglass figures have balance shoulders and hips with a smaller waist. If this is you, you're lucky because just about any classic styled bathing suit should flatter your figure.

Buying a swimsuit is about perception

Buying a swimsuit has a lot to do with beauty because it’s more about perceptions than it is actual good looks. The fact is, with the right attitude, nearly any woman’s swim suit will look good to men, provided there’s a woman in it. Other women are much pickier about what suit looks good on what body, and the worst critic of all is that chick in the mirror. I have a few beauty tips about bathing suits and bikinis, which I will pass on to you in the hopes that they will inspire confidence. Some of them are just theoretical for me, and others I use whenever I shop for a suit. Use what works for you.

Dressing to Hide a Larger Tummy Area: Flatter Your Apple Shape!

If you want to hide your tummy under a form fitting dress or outfit, the only way to go is with body shaping underwear like Spanx. These comfortable pieces of under garments will help you shape your body into the smooth shape you desire. They can be a little expensive but are well worth the price, as they can be worn everyday if you wish.

Choose Colors Wisely

If you’re trying to play down your tummy, be sure you choose your colors carefully for your lower half clothing. Forget completely about wearing light colors, as they will only show off your bulge. Instead, choose dark colors on pants with wide waistbands or bright prints. While it’s not a great idea to wear prints when you also have large thighs, if you have small thighs to go with your belly woes, you can pull it off. The pattern will hide your bulge.

How To Accentuate Your Waist

One way to draw attention away from your tummy is to accentuate your waist. To do this, choose a dress with beading or other eye catching features sewn on it where it hits under your bust. This will draw the eye to the smallest part of your body and make your tummy less noticeable.

If you want to hide your tummy in a swim suit, you can also accentuate your waist by tying a lovely wrap around your mid-section and hiding the lower tummy area.

Flattering Dress Shape Options

One of the most flattering dress shapes to consider when you want to hide your tummy is the empire waist cut. This shape can easily offer you a comfortable flowing style that doesn’t hug the waist or tummy at all. The only down side is some people feel as if they’re wearing maternity clothes when they wear empire waists. But, they certainly do the trick of hiding the belly, comfortably.

Another great choice includes an A-line dress which cinches a bit at the waist (or under the bust line) but then creates an “A” shape down your body in the skirt. This option doesn’t give as much hiding room as the empire waist and is more fitted. However, it still can conceal belly bulge.

For casual wear, consider hiding the stomach bulge with broomstick skirts. These skirts are long, flowing and rarely go out of style. They are great in the summer with t-shirts, tanks, sandals or flip flops.

What to Wear on a Cruise Vacation: Packing the Right Formal, Semi-Formal and Casual Clothing for Ship Trave

Instead of packing a variety of clothes and figuring out what you’ll wear along the way, it’s important for you to be intentional with your packing for a cruise. Many cruise lines will only allow you a small amount of luggage, so make each piece count!

Bathing Suit

Even if you typically don’t like to swim and would rather be shot than wear a bathing suit or sun tan in public, be sure you bring a swim suit with you on the cruise. After all, most cruises travel through tropical weather areas and if you want to stay cool, chances are you’ll be more than tempted to take at least a small dip in the pool. Keep in mind, you’ll likely never see your ship mates ever again, so dare to wear your swim suit with pride!

Formal Dress

Most cruises have at least one night throughout your stay where there will be a formal dinner event. Check with your cruise travel agent before you go, to see if you might have a need for a formal dress. Packing your favorite Little Black Dress is always a great idea, because most Little Black Dresses can be dressed up or down, as needed. If you get to the cruise and realize they have a casual formal dinner event, you can pair your dress with sandals and simple jewelry. However, if you get on the boat and realize you need a fancy dress, you can slip on your heels and spice it up with rhinestone accessories!

Excursion Outfit Options

If you plan on taking any excursions off the boat, you’ll need to ensure you know what to wear. Most excursions will require you to walk quite a bit, seeing a resort, a landmark or other location. So, be sure you pack some comfortable shoes you can walk easily in. You may also want to be sure you pack a few pairs of lightweight capris or pants for these outings, as they can be deep within the tropical natures of primitive countries and you might need the extra clothing protection from insects or bushes.

Designer Accessories Aren’t Required

While you probably want to bring along a few accessories to coordinate with your cruise attire, it’s not incredibly safe to travel on a cruise with a large amount of designer accessories or jewelry pieces. Limit yourself to some you could live without, if they were to accidentally get lost on the boat. Be sure what you bring isn’t incredibly expensive or sentimental, just in case you do misplace something.

Fashion Tips for Hourglass Figures: How to Dress to Flatter Your Figure

First and foremost, when choosing clothing, don’t ever try to hide your shape. The biggest mistake ladies with hour glass figures make is to try to camouflage their shape by wearing clothes far too big for them. Forget about buying a huge t-shirt to cover your shapely bust or a shapeless dress that doesn’t show off your curvy hips! When you wear clothes without tailored shapes, you end up visually adding poundage to your body and essentially you can make yourself look as if you weight is 20 to 30 pounds more than you actually is. Be sure you look for pieces that your body shapes won’t get lost in, but pieces that will highlight the curves in the best possible way. Of course, if you’re a mature woman, be sure you’re choosing age appropriate pieces that don’t show off too much skin!

Accentuate Your Waist
Most ladies with a hourglass figure have a small waist, in comparison to their bust width and hip width. Thus, it’s important for them to choose clothing items that can accentuate the smallness of their waist. Look for fashion pieces with belts that wrap around the smallest part of your waist, for the most flattering look. Pencil skirts with a waistband that sits higher on a small waist are very flattering for hour glass figured women. In addition, empire style dresses are the perfect solution for ladies who would rather disguise a curvy lower half, just a bit. The cut of an empire dress naturally highlights a small waist, gives attention to a full bust and conceals a larger lower body area.

Balance Your Body
To make the most of your curves and ensure no sex appeal is at loss in the process, the smartest thing for a hourglass figured female to do is balance her body with style choices. To do this, It’s important to choose tailored pieces of clothing. Opt for clothing with clear cut lines, instead of clothing that clings to your body or hangs without shape. You want clothing to skim the body, not hug it. Another nice way to do this is by highlighting one area of the body at a time. For example, if you’re wearing a form fitted skirt, you may want to wear a less revealing blouse that works to accentuate your waist but not your bust area. If you’re choosing a flowing skirt, you can then choose to wear a more form fitting shirt, to show off your upper body curves in the best light.

How to Make a Good First Impression

First impressions matter... a lot. So, you've painstakingly put on your makeup, dressed in your best clothes, and added some expensive jewelry and accessories. You should knock 'em out, right? Not necessarily...

There's more to a good first impression than meets the eye. Unfortunately, humans are quick to judge. You can completely blow it if you don't consider everything, including who you're meeting and how they will perceive you in the environment where the introductions will take place.

If the first impression is bad, you won't always have a second chance. So how do you put your best foot forward and impress others with your good looks, grace and charm? There are several ways to show that you're not only approachable, but quite charismatic.

Appearance

Let's face it, your appearance is the first thing people are going to notice about you. The importance is unmistakable. You have just seconds to grab that person's attention and show off your finer points.

Dress appropriately for the occasion and the weather. If you're headed to a business meeting or job interview, keep your attire professional and simple. On the other hand, a party or night out on the town may call for something fun and just a little flirty. If you're not certain how to dress, err on the side of caution and be conservative.

Keep your makeup fresh and natural-looking. People need to see the "real" you and if there's a hint of deception, you'll strike out. Choose a hairstyle that compliments your clothing and flatters your face. A style that's neat and low-maintenance usually does the trick.

Body Language

Good posture is very important, so stand up straight and be confident. To be sociable, open up and smile. Make eye contact and show interest in your new acquaintance. A short but firm handshake is always welcome and crucial in business settings.

Tension and nervousness emerge in several ways, such as facial expressions and gestures. There's nothing more disconcerting than meeting someone who obviously doesn't want to be there -- that is not the first impression you want to make. Keep your hands off of your hips and don't cross them. Relax, don't fidget, and be yourself.

Content and Conversation

Believe it or not, what you say and how you say it are not nearly as important as appearance and body language, but don't discount it. Carry on an intelligent conversation and show interest in what the other person has to say. If you make them feel well-received and worthy, chances are, that will be reciprocated.

Don't sweat it. To make the best first impression, prepare yourself and focus on good things. Be optimistic, enjoy yourself and have fun. Isn't that what life's all about?

If use of cosmetics is any indication of vanity, there's plenty to go around. Stores are full of products to beautify the body; including skin, hair, nails and lips. Creams, toiletries, and makeup designed to change or camouflage are all examples of cosmetics.

Today, cosmetics are not only acceptable, they're standard procedure for most women. How they're used and applied is what separates those who look silly from those who look beautiful and sophisticated. We'll outline some cosmetics tips to help you bring out your best features while concealing your flaws.

Creams & Lotions

Think of your skin as a canvas. The better the canvas, the better the art, no? There's no denying that genes play a crucial role in your overall appearance, but skin care early on in life will definitely give you the edge when it comes to texture, lines and spots when you hit your thirties and beyond. Introduce cosmetics one at a time and test behind your ears or on your forearm if you have sensitive skin. Hypoallergenic products are least likely to cause skin irritation.

Body lotions add comfort to dry skin while adding luster. Hands are often exposed to sunlight and may show age much quicker. We don't always pay attention to our hands but others do. Keep your hands soft and silky by using hand lotion multiple times every day, particularly after washing them and before bed.

In pre-teen and teen years it's important to keep skin clean and as clear as possible from blemishes to prevent scarring. Combination skin calls for treating problem areas accordingly. As we age, our skin loses its moisture and elasticity. There are various facial creams on the market today to add much-needed moisture to our faces and reduce fine lines and wrinkles -- thus improving our "canvas."

Makeup

When it comes to cosmetics, makeup is the the fun part. Applying makeup is a learned art. Always opt for cosmetics brushes that are high quality to ensure that they're effective and can withstand frequent washings. Start by putting on foundation with a sponge, blending it from the center, outwards, into the hairline and neck. Cover your eyelids and lips as well for solid base. You can set your foundation with loose powder and a large cosmetics brush.

Apply eye shadow to enhance your eyes. Three shades are ideal to shape and define with the darkest color on the lid and the lightest just beneath the brow bone. Mascara lengthens lashes provides fullness.

Blush adds color to cheeks and a youthful glow to your nose forehead and chin. Bronzing powder can double as blush and can be used for shading or hide a double-chin. Blend in well for a more natural look.

Define luscious lips with a lip liner similar to your own lip color or one that matches the color of your lipstick. To create fullness, dust on some white eye shadow to the center of your bottom lip. Keep lips moisturized at night with lip balm or traditional petroleum jelly. In the sunlight, use balm with a SPF to block the sun's dangerous rays from damaging your precious puckers.

Beauty Tips for Teens

Being a teen in today's world brings many pressures from society to look good. The media is full of beautiful faces that add to the stress of growing up. Don't let that undermine your self-confidence! What's a girl to do? There are many ways to enhance your natural beauty and keep a practical skin care and makeup routine. These tips will help bring out the best in you. But remember, good posture and a smile give a great first impression.

Skin Care Tips

Teenagers have different skin care and makeup needs than women. At what age should a teen begin a skin care regimen? Skin care should actually start when they are preteens, as early as the age of 10 or 11. Hormones start to kick in and blemishes may begin to appear.

As you mature, your skin care needs will change, as your skin does. Pay special attention to what products you are using and if there are any undesirable affects taking place. What makes your skin look radiant one month may cause blemishes and break-outs the next.

Moisturizer

At an early age, a light moisturizer may be called for, but do not use heavy creams made for dry skin. Choose a product that is formulated for light skin care maintenance that does not block your pores. A heavy moisturizer will probably wreak havoc and cause pimples. Try using a light moisturizer only once a day, before bedtime. Any more often than that is probably overdoing it. For combination skin, spot-moisturize. Instead of using moisturizer on your entire face, use it only on dry areas and keep it off of your t-zone.

Pimples and Blemishes

Acne is the #1 skin care concern for teens. Keep your face and hair clean, wash your hands frequently, and keep them away from your face. There are many products available on the market today for acne prevention and cures, and they are much more effective than years ago.

Once you begin experiencing problems, take action to avoid lifetime scarring. You can go to the Blemishes Page to find out how to get rid of pimples, preventative maintenance, and how to reduce the appearance of them once they appear.

Makeup for Teenagers

Most teenage girls begin wearing light makeup around the ages of 12-13 as they become more aware of their appearance. As a teen, your makeup should look natural and enhance your facial features. Don't overdo it, this will only make you look silly. With a few simple, inexpensive products, you can play up your finest features and look great!

Keep your makeup light for school. You don't need to use it on every facial feature you have! Mix and match to find out what looks best on you. For parties, you may want to add a little more makeup to add some glam. Make sure you blend it in well with your fingers or a cosmetics brush. Check it in bright light when you're finished

Teen & Tween Fashions, Trends & Styles

Teenagers often use hairstyles, jewelry, and trendy clothing to set themselves apart from the crowd, and at the same time, fit in. In a teen's world, fashion plays an important part in self-esteem and identity.

Styles are always changing and as teens grow, they find out just how far they are willing to go to make their mark on the world. Some hairstyles and clothing trends that were once considered taboo are now more widely accepted as teens discover who they are and what they want to represent. If you're a teen, you can discover what's popular in teen fashions and accessories for the new season right here!

Fashion Trends for Teens

This fall and winter, we'll see some exciting new styles for the season. With teens, big and bold is loud and clear. From clothing to jewelry, nothing is subtle. Styles are a bit self-indulgent with wild animal prints, comfy sweaters, and boot-cut jeans. Why boot cut and not skinny jeans? Because it's all about boots this winter and if you don't have a pair, start looking.

Casual styles include faded fabrics that have a distinctive, vintage look. If that's not enough, patches or strategically placed holes make denim look worn out like your favorite pair of jeans that you just can't give up. There's no set trend for waistlines, so pick what's comfortable and what looks best on you.

Prints are where it's at, whether it's shirts, dresses, or accessories. Interesting patterns are geometrical and typography that add flair to simple styles. Dress it up or dress it down with your favorite pair of shoes. Don't be reluctant to pair boots with a dress. You'll get instant casual to an otherwise too dressed-up look.

If celebrities give any indication, off-the-shoulder designs are back in a big way. You can bare one shoulder or bare both depending on your comfort level. Add some shimmer powder to your shoulders to glam things up for a fun evening out. Remember though, if your budget is tight, never buy a trendy piece of clothing just because it's a trend. Stick to garments that can be worn year after year and still retain their appeal. Or, pick a trend that you must have and mix it with classic designs.

Accessories and Jewelry

Accessories are a big part of fashion trends for teens. If you're on a limited budget, shop for basic gold and silver jewelry that will go with just about anything. Silver is still stylish but gold is gaining in popularity quickly. A transitional silver and gold combo piece looks classy with just about anything.

Jeweled pins, earrings and oversized beaded necklaces will add some color to your wardrobe and birthstones add individuality. Monogram necklaces and earrings in plain silver are great for casual, while jewel-studded monograms make the perfect accessories for a dressed-up look. Dark, symbolic jewelry adds more gothic to a primarily black outfit. Oh, and cuff bracelets. 'Nuff said.

Wide, studded belts worn with jeans makes a fashion statement and will complete any style. The models aren't wearing just leather accessories. Cloth, chains and silk scarves make excellent belts and add just enough pizzazz. Many jeans and skirts often come with belts, so mix it up a bit for versatility.

Designer handbags come in wild patterns with lots of bling that grab attention. Faux zebra, giraffe, and leopard are all the rave for prints, whilst traditional monogram purses are suitable for church, a wedding, or just for everyday.

Besides boots, Junior's shoes include glitz and glitter. Rich textures like denim, metallic fabrics, sequins and beads. A little bit of every everything to keep teenagers happy.

Swimwear Shopping Tips

For obvious reasons, shopping for swimwear is probably one of the least favorite things to do in the summer -- but it's necessary if you want to toss out your old bikini and find an updated suit that looks hot and feels cool. Are you going on vacation, to the beach, or plan on just lounging around on your day off? We've got some shopping tips to help you find a swimsuit that looks great not only on the rack but yourself as well. Let's get started...

Check out Return Policies

Shop only at stores you trust and always save your receipts. Closely check out the return policy on swimwear, and ask questions if necessary. Most stores will accept returns on swimsuits if they haven't been worn and still have the tags attached. If your suit is defective, you can probably still return it if it has been worn. A liberal return policy is desirable if you're shopping online, so you don't encounter problems with a suit that doesn't fit.

Look for signs in the store saying such things as "all sales are final." You may see these signs on clearance racks indicating you cannot return swimwear that has been marked down. You're getting a good deal, but be sure to try on the suit before you buy it.

Get Help

Take adequate time and shop with a trusted friend to swap ideas with. Honest opinions sometimes take a hit on the ego, but will help you avoid a fashion disaster that can cause considerable embarrassment when you're trying to impress that special guy. Likewise, tell your friend which suits don't look the best on her, and why. Soften the blow and praise her when she dons beachwear that works well for her figure.

Trying on Swimwear

For your own protection, keep your undergarments on when trying on swimwear -- particularly your panties. Just the thought of putting on swimwear that has been worn "au-natural" by others is an ultimate "gross-out." Protection strips in the crotch area will insure that you have a sanitary suit after you purchase it.

How to Choose Swimsuits that Flatter Your Figure

To look your best at the beach or pool, play around with styles and patterns that will minimize your flaws and maximize your assets! Time is money, so by knowing your problem areas, you can avoid the swimwear that's not going to do a thing for you -- and focus on the swimsuits that best suit your shape. Look for beachwear that is comfortable and won't fall off while you're swimming. After all, this is swimwear so it should serve that purpose.

Plus-Size Clothing Shopping Tips for Large Women

Just because you're a larger woman doesn't mean that you have to wear the boring, ultra-drab clothing that's commonly available. Our average dress size is going up and there's an increasing number of women who want to look fashionable and chic without looking frumpy. Fortunately, designers are listening to consumers and are creating attractive, plus-size fashions for women.

Still, it's difficult to find larger clothing in many areas of the country or they're very limited. What's more daunting, is choosing suitable styles that will disguise flaws (we all have them) and help us look slimmer. The following tips will help you choose the most flattering clothing when out shopping.

Make Sure it Fits

One of the main problems women have is wearing clothing that doesn't fit properly. Too loose and it adds bulk, too tight and bulges are showing. Make sure you use the fitting room and check your back for bulges. Know the stores return policy before buying. Smart manufactures pre-shrink their garments so look for this on the tags.

Wear Updated Undergarments

Undergarments are the "foundation" on which we wear our clothing. Weight fluctuates and it may be necessary to shop frequently or keep two sizes on hand. Underwear that gives proper support and minimizes budges will make you look ten times better.

Check the Length

Longer blouses and shirts are more flattering, plus they're very much in style right now. In style or not, they'll help elongate and cover your mid-section. For those that fall well below the hips, define your wait with a belt, sash, or scarf.

Avoid Patterns

Of course, not all patterns are unflattering but many of them are too busy and will make you appear larger -- small patterns in particular. Favorite designs aside, stick with monochrome or two colors.

Choose Handbags wisely

Depending on what you need to carry, try to choose a medium to large handbag or tote. Smaller purses have a tendency to look puny on a large woman and thus, make her appear larger than what she really is. Find something that will accommodate what you need to carry and have space to spare.

Shop Online

The Internet is a vast resource for plus-size clothing. The trick is finding a store you're comfortable with. Check stores and familiarize yourself with their styles and size charts. Not all clothing is created equal and sizes vary by the brand. Always measure yourself first and again, check return policies.

Women's Fashion Trends for Spring & Summer

There's excitement in the air every spring when new fashions emerge and help us brush off the winter doldrums. What's interesting this year are some versatile styles that fit in perfectly with a tight budget. Nowadays, you need to be a smart shopper and choose clothing that will mix and match with what's already in your closet.

Although there's fewer indulgences, this season's fashion trends for spring and summer are a whole lotta fun. Celebrities know that vintage is where it's at and that's why you see them wearing an array of garments that appear to be one-of-a-kind. Peasant blouses, classic dresses, trousers, and handbags are a steal at secondhand shops. Besides that, you'll see many new trends that are turning heads yet have affordable price tags.

Seasonal Colors

  • Colors making a splash this spring are orange, aqua, and sunny yellow. Purple beats out red as the top, hot color that will surely get you noticed.
  • The palette for formalwear offers up powdery pastels and classy, ever-so-trendy silver, gold, and white so you can dress up in style. Teens are lovin' these colors for prom!
  • Silver and gray replace black for warm weather neutrals. Whether matte or metallic, these two colors add dimension to otherwise solid styles.
  • If you're partial to black, forgo the monochrome look and pair it up with white for a current color combo.
  • Classic tan and military green go great together, not only for solid pieces but for the very trendy camouflage styles as well. Whatever your choice, these colors need simple accessories such as a belt or gold chain.

Styles and Patterns

  • Fashion trends for woman this summer will showcase frilly and feminine styles with sheer fabrics and lace accents. In addition to playing peek-a-boo, we're seeing exposed midriffs as shirts go shorter. Proceed with caution.
  • Sleeves take a backseat to this year's sleeveless, off-the-shoulder, and cutout designs -- making shoulders a perfect place for a light dusting of bronzing powder.
  • Shirt dresses are flirty and give you lots of movement on a spring day or hot summer night. Floral and playful prints add a variety of color and can help you look just a bit younger.
  • Fashionable, military inspired clothing shows your support and is an instant hit for casual wear. Take your pick from light, cotton cargos, camouflage, walking shorts, and belted jackets.
  • Every woman should have at least one classic, white, button down shirt. Vintage or not, these shirts will go with just about anything and adjust easily to work or play.
  • Bring out your animal instinct with giraffe, ostrich, or leopard prints. To avoid looking like you're part of the safari, pick patterns wisely and pair with solid colors. If that's still a bit too much, limit the prints to shoes, a belt, or handbag.
  • All-in-one outfits take the guesswork out of matching separates. Look for one-piece styles such as cropped pantsuits and jumpsuits that will look great with different styles of shoes.

  • Always carry a safety pin in your purse for emergencies.
  • Shoulder pads will help you balance large breasts and wide hips, but keep them slim.
  • For a quick fix, if your slacks or slip is too long, roll it up at the waist.
  • Break in your shoes before wearing for an entire day or special occasion.
  • Use dryer sheets or fabric spray to reduce static cling.
  • If you're losing or gaining weight, go to your local thrift store and get some in-between sizes that fit.
  • Make sure your pantyhose fit correctly. Tugging on them in public is a no-no.
  • Don't be afraid to try anything new.
  • Always clean your clothing before you store it.
  • Apply your perfume before dressing to prevent staining your clothing.
  • If a department store doesn't have your size, ask. Many stores are set up to call their other stores to locate and ship the desired size directly to you.
  • Beware of those "skinny" mirrors in stores. They are misleading. If a style didn't look good on you in the past, it won't now, unless you've made some significant changes.
  • Don't bare all. Leave some mystery to your look.

Shopping Tips for Women's Fashion & Clothing

Looking for that perfect dress for a special occasion? A pair of jeans that fit like a glove? Unless you know exactly what to look for, shopping for clothing can be frustrating and time consuming. Spending your money wisely while finding fashions that flatter your figure and skin tone is not difficult as you may think. Here, you'll find some tips and advice to help you shop for classic, trendy, and seasonal garments in today's society where your clothing is just as important as your attitude.

Shop in Off-Peak Hours

It's the same with Christmas shopping. When the stores are less crowded, you'll find it easier to maneuver around clothing racks, find an empty fitting room, and get help from the sales clerk.

Wear Loose-Fitting Clothing

Dress in comfortable clothes that are easy to take off and put back on. Avoid multiple buttons, tight collars, panty hose and lace-up shoes.

Watch the Mirrors Carefully

Most stores supply mirrors that may alter your appearance in such a way that you'll appear slimmer. This is good for sales -- but not good when you get home and find out that you look very different in your own mirror. Always check the store's return policy before buying anything and save your receipts in the event that you have to return a garment.

Choose Clothes that Fit

Don't buy loose clothing that hangs on your frame. This will add bulk and make you appear larger. On the other hand, stay away from clothes that will fit perfectly if you lose 5-10 lbs. Clingy fabrics are unforgiving and will show every flaw and bulge. Buy only clothes that you are comfortable in, standing up or sitting down.

Take a Friend

Get a second opinion from a friend who is on the same mission. Shopping for clothing takes time, so make it clear from the beginning that this will be an all-day event and treat her to lunch for telling you exactly how the styles and colors look on you.

Don't Overdo Trendy Clothing

Wearing the latest styles and trends will keep you updated, but don't wear too many at once. Keep your wardrobe versatile and mix trendy fashions with classic style.

Wear Proper Undergarments

Always wear bras and panties that fit you well. Bras that ride up your back will not enhance your bust and you'll probably experience unwanted bulges. Consider investing in a body shaper to look sleek in a suit or dress. Many tanks and halter tops now have a built-in bra, enjoy!

Mix Seasonal Clothing

This can be done, but keep it practical. Who says you can't wear a tank top in the Winter? Mix and match to find the right balance. Even in cooler climates, a summer tank looks just fine in the winter under long sleeves or a jacket. Just make sure you choose similar colors.

Find a Style that Flatters You and Stick With It

You've probably come across styles that look great on you. If the style is classic, you're in luck. Some fashions such as turtlenecks never lose popularity. If the style is trendy, enjoy it for the moment, but don't toss it out when the trend ends. Fashion trends have a tendency to come back in style, so you can dig it out and wear it again if you haven't experienced any major weight fluctuations.

Common Fashion Mistakes

Your makeup is applied, your hair is styled, and you're ready to go out. But wait... There's nothing that can spoil your look more than a conspicuous fashion faux pas.

Here's a list of the top fashion mistakes made when it comes to clothing and accessories. You may have noticed them on other people but you haven't committed them yourself, right? Have a look around and think again. These mistakes are more common than you think and many can be applied to men as well as women.

Your clothes don't fit correctly.

Wearing baggy clothes can add pounds. Clothes that are too small accentuate unsightly bulges. Don't buy anything thinking that it will be "just right" if you gain or lose weight. Live in the moment and look good now. If the size of the tag bothers you, cut it off or black it out with a marker. Seriously.

Wrinkled clothing.

That great suit or dress won't flatter you unless it's wrinkle-free. Avoid this fashion mistake and buy clothes that don't wrinkle or keep an iron handy.

Dressing too trendy.

Don't try to satisfy every trend in one day. You'll probably just end up looking silly.

Mixing two seasons in one outfit.

Your pieces will contradict each other. Stick with one-season fashions.

Evident bra and panty lines.

Wear proper fitting undergarments underneath your clothing. If they do fit you properly and you still have lines, then your clothing is too tight.

Exposed undergarments.

Not so much for play but a definite mistake for professionals. Keep your bra straps properly adjusted so they're not hanging out. If your pants are low-rise, your panties should be too.

Too much white.

White makes you look larger so limit this color. Don't even think about wearing white slacks or pantyhose unless you want to add bulk.

The History of Fashion Fads, by the Decade

As the decades pass, fashion fads are often characterized by politics, popular movies, music and famous celebrities. History shows that designers also dictate trends by changing styles often, allowing themselves and clothing manufacturers to keep making money off of our our strong desire to be fashionable and trendy.

1950s Styles

The 50's marked the era of conservatism. After the end of WWII, families flourished, thus, the "baby boomers" children. Women's small waists were often the result of a corset or cinch belt, worn with dresses or knee-length skirts. High heels or saddle shoes were the popular choices for shoes.

Poodle skirts and pony tails dominated, with designer Bill Blass Jeans for a more casual, practical style. Accessories included the unique cat-eye glasses, sometimes worn with a chain.

Men looked clean-cut, a-la Jimmy Dean, wearing flat top and crew cut styles that were very short and easy to care for. Gray flannel suits dominated the workplace and slacks were often worn for casual, everyday events.

1960s Fashion Fads

The 60's began the "groovy" time when the babies of post WWII were growing up and finding their own style. Youth took precedence as they became the largest population in the United States.

The beginning of the decade began with women wearing knee-length dresses leftover from the 1950s. Later on, mini-skirts, hot pants and go-go boots showed a generation breaking away from their conservative parents. Bouffant hairstyles ruled, with hair accessories for adornment and to hold a complicated style in place.

Men still enjoyed crew cuts but lost the bland, basic colors for brighter, eye-catching styles. Casual shirts were plaid, button down and polyester suits and pants were appropriate for the workplace.

"Flower Power" and "Free Love" were all the rage when the 1969 Woodstock "Summer of Love" concert took place. Bell-bottoms became a hot fad that emerged once again decades later. Beaded jewelry was the funnest, must-have accessory to show individuality.

1970s Decade

The 70's marked a freer, fun-loving society when the women's movement prompted them to burn their bras, sparking true liberation. Tube tops were comfortable and sexy whilst mini-skirts and hot pants allowed more show of leg.

Long, flowing dresses and skirts with feminine, floral prints were the style for those not yet ready to join the others. Colorful, tie-dyed t-shirts became popular fads for both women and men, none of them appearing identical.

Girls often wore culottes to school, not near as daring as their older sisters. Colorful, crocheted ponchos and satin jackets provided style and warmth on a cool, summer night.

Hairstyles were feathered, thanks to Farrah Fawcett who set the trend for long layers and lots of fluff. Not only did women cut their hair to be like her, they wanted to be blonde. Brunettes began adding highlights to give themselves just the right touch of blonde. Braver ones completely bleached out their hair.

Corduroy and denim fabrics were a popular choice for men, available in pants, suits and blazers. Along with disco music, the movie "Saturday Night Fever" brought high-waited suit pants and leisure suits.

1980s History

What can be said about the 80's fads? From hair to jewelry to shoulder pads, it's big everything. The long, teased hairstyles, makeup became much bolder. Besides the somewhat "scary" factor, this decade sums up some fun music and styles that we'd rather forget.

1980's fashion1980's fashions for women were primarily long t-shirts and sweaters worn over leggings or tights. Influenced by the movie "Flashdance," off-the shoulder styles were were seen on just about everyone who kept up with the latest styles. Legwarmers looked not only sporty, but stylish as well.

How to Choose the Best Fitting Jeans

By far, blue jeans are the most important clothing in today's wardrobe. Because they are durable and can be worn with just about anything, they are universal.

Why is it that you have one or two favorite pairs that you wear most of the time? It's probably because you have found a style and color that looks best on your shape. Unfortunately, they eventually wear out, you gain or lose a few pounds, or you throw them out for a new trend.

If you would rather go to the dentist then shop for new jeans, you're not alone. Just the thought of trying on multiple pairs of jeans in the fitting rooms can make the strongest of us cringe in fear. We've got some shopping tips to help you find a pair that will flatter your figure and cut down on the stress involved when you find a pair that looks great on the rack -- but not so good on you.

Plan Ahead

Set aside plenty of time when you begin your quest for a good pair of jeans. If you're in a hurry, you'll probably make some bad decisions and end up returning the jeans to the store.

Choose a Good Fit

Don't buy jeans because you like the size on the label. Sizes and cuts vary widely by the brand, so start with your general size range and don't be reluctant to choose a size larger than what you usually get. A comfortable pair of jeans that fit well will look the best on you.

The Darker the Color, the Better

If you're concerned about extra weight, stay away from light-colored or stonewashed jeans. Dark (indigo) blue and black denim jeans with some added Lycra will make you look slimmer and will go with just about anything. Choose angled back pockets to help minimize your backside and stay away from jeans that have no pockets at all.

Look for a Long Hem

When you go shopping, wear a pair of shoes with heels that are similar to what you usually wear with jeans. For thinner-looking legs, the hem of the jeans should cover a good part of your shoes and almost reach the floor. Keep in mind that when jeans shrink, so can the length -- so it's better to go with the longer pair.

Go with the Boot Cut

Stay away from large flare legs that will add bulk or skinny legs that look silly. Boot cut jeans have just the right amount of curve at the bottom of the legs to look stylish and make your legs appear longer.

How to Dress Slimmer

Body weight fluctuates. While not everyone can be a small size, the clothes you wear can make you look thinner, or (gasp!) larger. It's your choice. You don't need to completely cover your body if you have extra weight, and not every one of these tips will work for you. Find out what flatters your figure and stick with it. You have some great features, so accentuate the best and accessorize the rest.

One caveat. A small weight gain may make your clothes feel tighter, so it's a good idea to have some "fat" clothes available for those occasions. Don't feel bad. Every woman experiences this but there are ways to neutralize the problem. These tricky tips for clothing, color, and accessories will tell you how to dress slimmer, and ultimately, look thinner.

  • Find a good fit. Clothes that are too tight or too baggy will make you appear larger.
  • Choose darker solid colors such as black, navy blue and gray.
  • Dress monochromatic, all in one color, top to bottom, no patterns.
  • If you want to wear patterns, go for smaller ones that overlap.
  • Avoid horizontal stripes. Look for thin vertical and and diagonal lines for a fluid look.
  • Select bold accessories to draw attention away from trouble spots.
  • Avoid bulky sweaters and sweatshirts.
  • Always try on clothes. Different designers have different size charts.
  • Avoid pleats. Flat front pants and skirts are instant slimmers.
  • Low-rise pants that hit just below your navel will lengthen your torso.
  • For longer looking legs, skirts should fall right above the knee.
  • Forego the frills. Extra ruffles and material add to your overall size.
  • If you have a large bust, invest in a good support bra.
  • Avoid shiny fabrics such as velour and satin.
  • High heels add height and shapes your legs. That's why you always see runway models in heels.
  • Dark panty hose will make large legs appear thinner.
  • Stay away from patterned leggings.
  • Wear undergarment foundations such as control top pantyhose and shapers.
  • If you prefer wearing a sleeveless dress, cover your upper arms with a sheer, elegant shawl.

Colors Make a Fashion Statement

Women are generally drawn to colors that flatter their figure and complexion. Your favorite color doesn't always appear in your wardrobe if it doesn't do a thing for you. If you're the majority, the color you most often choose to wear is the image you want to reflect, and the color that makes you look and feel good.

Lets have some girly fun! Find out what fashion statement you're making with the colors you wear on an everyday basis, and what the color of your clothing says about your personality.

Black - Conservative yet sexy, you know that black is versatile. Wearing black clothing makes you appear thinner, giving your self-esteem a turbo-boost.

Pink - Traditional and charming, pink is feminine all the way. A pink and black combo is a trendy twosome for women who like to add mystery to their otherwise girly image.

Red - Bold and vibrant, you like to be the center of attention. Red portrays the adventurous side of you that's undeniable.

Blue - Fun-loving and free, blue clothing attracts independent women who are comfortable with their inner-selves and achievements.

Orange - Extroverted and gutsy, orange means you like to stand out in a crowd. Never taking life for granted, you enjoy new challenges and have a tendency to come out on top.

Yellow - Always the optimist, you're athletic and outdoorsy. Yellow reflects a vibrant personality and great intuition.

White - Those who favor white prefer "safe" colors for a perfect match. White can be a great accent for a deep, dark tan, adding sex-appeal to the "colorless" color.

Green - If you're hot on green, you're a down-to-earth, natural beauty. While somewhat stubborn, you're still "the girl next door," who likes to have fun.

Control Frizzy Hair

1. Shampoo and Condition

Wash hair with a shampoo that isn't a detergent. You can usually tell this because the shampoo doesn't suds up as much. Rinse your hair and apply conditioner. After leaving your conditioner on for a few minutes rinse it with cool or cold water. This helps lock in the conditioning. When drying your hair don't fluff it up in a towel. Pat it dry and use a wide toothed comb.

If you use lots of hair care products such as pomades, daily straighteners or products with extra hold, you may need to use a monthly shampoo that rids your hair of residue yet is gentle and won't damage your hair. Otherwise your hair will collect build-up and begin to feel heavy, straw-like and lose its shine. Use a shampoo such as Neutragena Anti Residue Shampoo and you'll gain your silky, soft, shiny hair back.

Don't shampoo every day. People with naturally curly hair tend to have dry hair anyway so no need to over dry it. If you can, try to shampoo every other day.

2. Stop Smoking
Smoking causes you skin to be dry and wrinkled and it does the same thing to your hair. Smoking causes your hair to be dry, break off, frizz and thin.

3. Cut down on alchohol and smoking
This is a tough one, especially for me because I like a glass of wine and I love my coffee, but these drinks tend to pull water out of your body, that means less moisture that goes to your hair causing dryness and frizz.

But I'm not saying cut these things out completely simply, limit your intake. As for me, I don't drink a pot of coffee a day anymore, instead now it's just a couple of cups, much better

4. Using Styling products
While hair is wet run a dime size amount of your favorite hair serum into your hands and cover your hair completely through to the ends. If you have very course hair use a product designed for coarser hair. To be sure hair is completely covered, bend over exposing the back of your hair, rub serum from your neck to the top of your hair, then stand up straight and rub the remaining amount of serum beginning from your scalp downward.

5. Limit Blow Drying
Very few people with curly hair go without blow drying it to some extent. If you like the curly look then be sure to use a diffuser on your blow dryer, not using one will create frizzy, fly-away hair

Medium Hair Styles

The popularity of the medium length hair style has never waned, and it remains extremely popular today. In fact, most hair styles that you see can be considered medium hair styles. Just think about the textured bob or the layered hair cut. Most of these styles look their best at a medium length.

There are a lot of reasons why people choose the medium hair style over other types of styles. The medium hair style is easier and quicker to style than longer hair and it affords more versatility than shorter styles. No matter whether you wear it up or down, the medium hair style offers a great deal of variety to the wearer. Here are just a few ideas:

" Quick and Casual. No matter if your medium length hair style is straight or curly, you can whip it up in a flash to create a simple, casual updo at a moment's notice. Simply pull your medium hair style up into a bun, French twist or ponytail, allowing a few sprigs to escape here and there, and you're done. You can also practice variations of the ponytail and add interest to your medium hair style by changing the amount of hair that you pull through your scrunchie.

" Funky and textured. Probably the most popular medium hair styles of today feature a lot of textured, creative cutting techniques. By using a combination of scissors and razor, your stylist can turn your medium hair style into a fashion statement complete with wispy layers and interesting movement.

" Cute and curled. This medium hair style is extremely easy to accomplish if you have natural curl or a perm adding texture to your medium hair style. If not, you can easily add interest to your medium hair style with hot rollers, tube rollers or a curling iron. Simply, roll your medium hair style, spritz it a little, take it down, run your fingers through your medium length hair style, spray and go.

" Captivating color. The medium hair style is perhaps the perfect length of hair in which to try funky and fresh color techniques. From chunky highlights to ink-dipped tips, make your medium hair style stand out from the rest with interesting color.

As you can see, there are numerous things that you can do to make your medium hair style stand out among your peers. While others are stuck pulling their long tresses up or styling their short locks the same old way, you can quickly change your medium hair style to reflect your mood or the occasion. And the beauty of the medium hair style is that almost everything you do will be quick and easy.

Hair Loss Information for Men

While some people are not bothered by losing their hair, many others do not like the way it looks and would like to improve their appearance. Luckily, there are many ways to deal with thinning hair or hair loss. The variety of hair loss products on the market today make it possible to find the hair loss product that will work best for you.

One popular hair loss medication is Minoxidil, or Rogaine. This topical treatment, is applied to your head on a schedule set by your doctor. This medication slows hair loss and even promotes growth in some people. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for everyone, plus it takes 2 to 4 months for results to show. It cannot treat a receding hairline, but is used for treating balding on the crown of the head. Minoxidil or Rogaine is approved for use by men or women.

Another hair loss medication is Propecia. This medicine is very similar to Rogaine, except that it is a pill which can take 12 months to show results. Propecia does not work for every one. With both Rogaine and Propecia, the results only last for as long as you take the medication. Once you stop taking it, our hair loss continues, so if you decide on either of these medications be aware you are making a long term commitment.

If you don't want to take medicines for your hair loss there are other products that are much less expensive but provide a temporary solution. Hair volumizers are are aerosol products that thicken and cover bald spots. You may have seen them on TV, but the new ones today are much better than they used to be, and are much more durable and longer lasting.

Another product is hair-thickening fiber, which is a natural substance that binds to your hair to make it look thicker and bald spots much less noticeable. These have also improved over the years, and don't stain, are considered safe and must be washed out.

Still another hair loss product is alopecia masking lotion. This product works by eliminating the contrast between your hair and your scalp. It is basically camouflage for your hair.

Last, but not least, there are a number of vitamins such as Shen Min, which is a Chinese herb made from the eastern wild rose, which is said to help with baldness, and a whole range of other vitamins that make similar claims.

Natural Hair Care

If you've been with me for awhile, you know that I prefer natural vs. chemical. That's not so unusual. Most smart women know the value of using natural products vs. chemically based products.

That's not to say there aren't some very good chemicals that do the trick, there are. I just happen to prefer exposing my body to more natural, hair care tips and safe methods as much as possible.

I think of it this way. What makes your favorite restaurant food so delicious? What makes you go back for the good food? It's generally the fresh, natural non-processed ingredients. They don't use processed, or chemically treated ingredients. Everything is fresh daily and right from the vine, so to speak, and it's good for you.

The same principle works for your skin and hair care. Use things that are not processed or chemically treated. It will make a difference in how your hair feels, looks and holds it condition.

My hair, for instance, I like to use fresh foods. Sounds exotic and like a lot of trouble, but you can make up shampoos, conditioners and skin creams ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator to use for up to a week.

Something as simple as mayonnaise for example, is a great hair conditioner. I rub it into my hair, wrap it in plastic wrap for about 20 minutes and wash it out. For something so simple it makes my hair super soft and shiny. And what did it cost? Just a few cents. A lot cheaper than what I'd spend on hair conditioner at my favorite hair salon.

Now take that same mayonnaise and add an avocado. Mash it up right into the mayonnaise and you've got even a better conditioner. Again it's cheap and you can make enough to last a week in the frige.

For added conditioning try using these oils which are very nourishing for healthy looking hair. Simple put on, wrap in a warm towel and leave on for 20 minutes or even overnight.

Use Olive Oil - Provide elasticity and strength to your hair.

Jojoba Oil - Perfect for dry or over processed, frizzy hair because it moisturizes.

Coconut Oil - Coconut oil contains lots of things like magnesium, calcium and iron so it helps improve damaged hair and gives it new strength as well as lubrication.

Rosemary Herbal Oil - Try this for dandruff. Warm the oil and massage it into your scalp, then wrap in a hot towel. Very soothing and nice!

Stress and Its Affect On Your Skin

Unfortunately, stress has become an ubiquitous presence in our lives. At work, in our relationships, driving through rush-hour traffic -- most of us take it for granted that there is nothing unusual about stressful situations occurring on a regular basis, day after day.

Like termites undermining a structure, stress works insidiously to undermine body, mind and emotions. But the results can become all too obvious, by showing up on your skin.

While dermatologists are still debating whether stress actually causes skin disorders, they seem to agree that stress definitely triggers or aggravates skin conditions such as acne, hives, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, warts, cold sores and blisters. "And that matches the ayurvedic perspective," says Rama Kant Mishra, world-renowned ayurvedic dermatologist. "Ongoing day-to-day stress adversely impacts your immune system.

This makes your body susceptible to attack, like fertile ground in which seeds take root easily. The skin is an organ, widely connected to the rest of the physiology as well as the mind. It is natural that like the rest of you, your skin is also affected by stress."

And even if stress does not actually show up on your skin as one of these conditions, it is one of the chief contributors to an increased population of free radicals in the body, which, in turn, has been discovered to be a major cause of premature aging. Emotional or mental trauma can cause you to screw up your face or frown or pout, and constant muscular contractions can eventually become permanent fine lines and wrinkles.

The "fight-or-flight" mechanism is the body's built-in way of responding to stress. In times of "fight-or-flight," the flow of blood (and nutrients) is directed to the areas of the body considered vital for responding to the stress and withdrawn from areas considered non-essential, such as the skin. So is the flow of oxygen, making it difficult for the skin to "breathe."

When "fight-or-flight" situations become frequent, the skin is consistently starved of both blood and oxygen, making it dull and lifeless, less supple, less hydrated and more prone to clogged pores and breakouts.

Tattoo Removal Methods

One noted method for removing a tattoo is excision. This is best used if you have a tattoo that is small. The advantage of this method is that the entire tattoo can be removed. With larger tattoos it may be necessary to excise in phases or stages, starting with the center of the tattoo and removing other areas at a later time.

Excision requires a local anesthetic injection to numb the area. After that the tattoo is removed surgically. The edges are then joined and sutured. If you have a large tattoo it may require grafting skin form another part of your body.

This staged Excision does not work well on "home-made" tattoos that normally inject the ink deeper into the skin, unlike professional tattoos that do not go as deep.

Laser removal of tattoo
Laser tattoo removal is safe and effective and can be used on all body areas such as the legs, pubic areas, breasts, face, buttocks and neck. Depending on the color and type of ink used to create your tattoo will depend on the type of laser used. For example, a green light laser would be used to remove red or orange ink. Your skin color also makes a difference. Blue-black and red tattoos fade faster; green tattoos will take more treatments.

A topical anesthetic is generally used; however several treatments will be needed. This treatment costs at least $200 a treatment however there is typically less scarring.

Fade away creams
This involves using a series of creams which work by breaking down the tattoo ink. The tattoo then becomes lighter and fades away in time. This is one of the newest methods and it's also the cheapest as creams cost about $100. This is the least painful method and you won't suffer skin damage or scarring.

Dermabrasion
This should not be confused with Microdermabrasion. Dermabrasion involves abrasion of the top layers of skin until the middle layer, which contains the actual tattoo pigment, is reached and exfoliated, removing the unwanted tattoo with it.

Dermabrasion is limited in its effectiveness because tattoo ink is generally too deep in the skin layers to be removed completely with this method. The down side to Dermabrasion is that it often causes serious, permanent unsightly scarring. Dermabrasion is done through the use of chemical agents such as caustic acids, actual sandpaper or salt.

Caring For Your Skin At Any Age

Are we justified in our obsession?

They say that beauty is only skin deep, and while I believe this to be true it's also important to do what feels right for you. If keeping up appearances gets you through the day then, by all means, that's what you need to do, however I'm not a fan of going under the knife. With the huge advances made in skin care products today, I'd much prefer taking the less invasive route.

Here's a few age related tips and remedies that will help boost your skin's appearance at any age without needles or knives.

20 Something
Your skin is at its peak of beauty in your twenties, however nurture its beauty with daily sun protection and always use at least an SPF 30 sunscreen. Of course this should continue at any age.

Avoid oily makeup and coverups. Use an oil free moisturizer every day. This is also a good time to begin using an eye cream under the eye area at night.

Try using products that contain green tea which have shown to help reduce the risk of skin cancer.

30 Something
Your 30's is when your skin is beginning to become a bit drier and sun damage may begin to appear. It's time to start using thicker moisturizing creams so as to lock in high contents of moisture. Continue with eye creams at night and use your sunscreen religiously. Also, skin bleaching products may need to be used to diminish dark spots from sun damage.

Hint: Put your moisturizer on over damp skin. This helps lock in more moisture.

40 Something
It's time to kick it up another notch. Your forties is when your skin loses much of it tightness. It may begin to look dull and your pores may become larger. Blotches, freckles, age spots, discoloration, and changes in skin color may become much more visible. Retinoids, anti-oxidants and alpha hydroxy acids can improve the look of your skin and your 40's would be a good time to begin using them. Of course it's essential that you continue using a thick moisturizer and eye serums on a daily basis.

Home microdermabrasion kits are also an option that can result in a smoother more even appearing skin texture and tone while rejuvenating your skin's texture and color.

50 Something
Changes in your skin have reached high gear. Menopause has assisted in the loss of Estrogen which is what has given your skin its elasticity and kept it hydrated, however since those estrogen levels have diminished, you will begin seeing wrinkles form around your eyes, drooping eyelids and expression lines around the mouth and forehead.

Sensitive Skin

Ok, you have sensitive skin, not so unusual, lots of people have sensitive skin. All it means is that your skin can become itchy red, swollen or sensitive to certain things placed on your skin or even environmental conditions can irritate it.

Why does skin become sensitive?

There are lots of reasons why our skin becomes sensitive but if you think about the things we expose our skin to on a daily basis there's a lot of different chemical exposures there. Things like soaps, toners, blemish reducers, acne concealers, foundations, blush, facial masks, after shave lotion – the list goes on!

Even the toughest of skin might encounter a reaction with all that we expose it to.

Causes of sensitive skin

Trying to pinpoint the cause of sensitive skin is not always as simple as discontinuing use of a certain product. Because of the nature of sensitive skin, it can take hours or even days before the signs of sensitivity are visible. And the sensitivity may not be caused by a product. Exposure to the sun can create skin problems, as can extremely hot water. Your laundry detergent, fabric softeners, shampoo, perfume, hair spray, and even the household cleaning products you use can be the culprit. Certain foods and even some plants can cause symptoms of an allergic reaction as well.

Healthy skin is less sensitive because it's able to act as an effective barrier. Sunburned skin, skin that's excessively dry and skin that is otherwise damaged tends to be more sensitive. That's one reason why people who don't normally have sensitive skin develop skin sensitivity during winter months when dry, cold air strips skin of its protective moisture.

How to treat sensitive skin

Before sensitive skin can be treated, it's important to figure out the underlying cause of the problem. It may be necessary to seek the advice of a dermatologist as you may have a skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis or rosacea. Here are some tips for treating sensitive skin

Tumescent Liposculpture - What you Should know

Tumescent Liposculpture is the safest method of liposuction available and is today one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures. This new treatment has been found to be safer; it offers less discomfort, is much more efficient and has much better recovery results. These benefits have also allowed more effective treatment of older patients as well.

How does it work?
Tumescent liposculpture uses an advanced technique of permanently removing excess fat deposits in areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. The technique starts by infiltrating the fat with a sterile fluid before it is removed. This solution completely numbs the area due to the effect of local anesthetic, therefore general anesthesia or sedation is not required. The blood vessels are then constricted using a substance called adrenalin, this greatly reduces bleeding. Then using suction tubes called cannulas, the fat is removed. The term liposculpture is coined because the surgeon can actually sculpt the area to give it a desired shape such as removing bumps and grooving. Also there are no stitches or ugly scars.

Mesotherapy Las Vegas - Facial Hair Removal

One of the most popular methods of weight loss in Las Vegas is mesotherapy, which is typically done at a medical spa. Mesotherapy consists of injections in the abdomen or in whichever area the patient would like to loose fat. Now, it's not a magic procedure - it can take a long take to reduce all the fat and shrink the fat cells. Normally, about 3 to 4 treatments are needed before the patient sees absolute results. It doesn't have any down-time, it is a very simple procedure - you go home with ice. We also advise you to avoid any blood thinner or aspirin before the procedure.

We start by doing a pre-evaluation and weigh and measure the patient before the injections. Mesotherapy is not invasion as compared to liposuction. Although mesotherapy is very conservation, people with allergies to anesthesia prefer it as they cannot undergo liposuction. So if you have any fat that you'd like to get rid of, and you don't want any surgical procedures which are drastic, like liposuction, then I suggest that you find a medical spa which will give you a free evaluation for possible Las Vegas mesotherapy.

Laser hair removal in Las Vegas has grown in popularity in the past years as an alternative to shaving or waxing It tries to destroy the hair follicle every time we use the laser. It helps remove the hair, and keeps it from growing back. It is done every 3 weeks typically, and there is very minimal pain because we put a lidocaine gel on it to reduce the pain. The laser hair removal treatment time varies from one person to another. Some patients are easier to treat - after 4 or 5 treatments they're done; some patients take 10 to 12 treatments - it depends on how much hair they have, and what ethnicity they are.

If you're tired to shaving, and tired of waxing, then I suggest that you have laser hair removal done in Las Vegas. Also, you should look for a doctor that is qualified to do laser hair removal (or laser hair reduction) because you can have risks and complications such as burning the patient, and so you should have a doctor around to know how to treat the problem if it ever arises.

When getting a Las Vegas facial, many patients are now choosing to go to an esthetician. A skilled esthetician provides facials and acne treatments as well as resurfacing of the skin. However, she does the procedure at a Las Vegas medical spa when a doctor is on-site, so the doctor can evaluate the patient and observe what she's doing during the facial.

Acne Skin Care Tips Help To Reduce Your Breakouts

If you are like most acne sufferers, you might get obsessed with the whole wash your face regularly and avoid certain foods thing. Although the main cause of your acne is not due to poor hygiene or eating certain foods, in so many instances some factors tend to worsen you acne conditions, leading to more pimples (zits) on your face.

Proper acne skin care helps in reducing the amounts of breakouts on your skin. A number of skin experts and health practitioners are of the opinion that natural acne treatments are the best for reducing the intensity of acne lesions on the skin and tend to recommend the following acne skin care tips.

One factor that could worsen your acne condition is clogged pores, which results in more pimples on your face. Before you go scrubbing your face a million times a day, you should know that you have to be gentle with your face. Wash your face at most thrice a day, and you should use lukewarm water. Avoid soaps that contain chemicals and ingredients that damage your skin. Try using a mild cleanser. Remember to pad your face dry and avoid scrubbing.

I know you can't help it. But hey!!! Keep your hands by your side, stop touching, squeezing, rubbing or picking your pimples and other lesions. In case you don't know, doing that can cause severe acne scarring and more acne flare-ups. So simply put "get your hands off your face".

If your are a guy, then you should be careful how you shave. Try and find out which razor type is best for your skin. Although I used to use electric razors when I had a lot of pimples on my face, but now I use "twin blades" shaving sticks to shave. Always shave gently to avoid scrapping your acne lesions, which could result in acne scars.

There is a type of acne that is termed "cosmetic acne" which is usually more prevalent in girls. Using certain type of cosmetics can worsen your acne problem or could even be the major cause of your breakouts. Oil-based (comedogenic) cosmetics are the major culprits in worsening your acne condition and you should stay clear of such. Try using water-based (non-comedogenic) cosmetics, which do not clog your pores.

If you are light-skinned (Caucasian), and you regularly sun-bathe, you might feel that a tan would look good on you by giving you a nice complexion and drying out your pimples, but you should try reducing the amount of sun exposure. When you expose your skin to high intensity sunlight, Ultraviolet rays from the sun would dry the outer layers of your skin resulting in it peeling off. Regular exposure to high intensity sunlight makes you prone to having skin cancer.

A very common argument among dermatologist, doctors and health care practitioners is whether diet affects acne or causes acne. Well there is one thing that is certain, a large number of acne sufferers know that there are certain types of foods that increase the amount of pimples (breakouts) on their face. I have noticed that there are some foods that when I take in large quantities I expect breakouts (pimples) in the next 5 to 6 days.

To prevent skin problems such as acne, white and dark spots and pimples, you should consider changing the content of your meals by including more nutritious foods. You can improve your acne condition by eating foods that are rich with antioxidants. These help in keeping you healthy by fighting heart diseases and slowing down cell regeneration. Fruits and leafy vegetables contain enough of these.
